How do I choose an HVAC company?

Other people have answered, and they have made assumptions.

I graduated from an HVAC apprenticeship program and now contract HVAC companies Houston for the building I maintain.

If you can find a company with good ratings and get bids to compare etc., that is an approach, but not one available to all.

The honest answer is to find a sweet spot you are comfortable with between their cost, quality, and availability.

Where I am, there are not many options that are available promptly. The same company’s that could provide higher quality will not have the same degree of responsiveness and follow-up. Price and quality also need to be considered. The guys I currently use are not always of the best quality, but it is a great value given their price.

So to put it in another way. The guys are 8/10 availability, 7/10 quality of artistry, 10/10 on price.

You have to make the best decision out of the companies that are available in your service area.

I have learned that this is the best practical approach and have applied it to other AC service Houston trades as well, even to the point of doing some work myself because the available options were 0/10 on price ($4k for <8hrs work) or 0/10 on availability (weeks into months of back and forth scheduling while worker turnover elongates the process of getting service).

I am sure there is an underappreciated catch-all category of a handyman that could be the best answer to some of these questions if you can find a good one. But that is another question. One that I have not yet answered.
